Level I Dental Assistant

A level I dental assistant must complete a few requirements, but will allow you to perform any basic supportive dental procedure that is listed under DC’s dental practice laws. You can find the full scope of duties allowed here. In order to become a level I dental assistant, you must:

1. Complete high school or its equivalent (e.g. GED), AND

2. Complete a Board approved course in dental radiography, AND

3. Apply to the DC Board of Dentistry for registration

Level II Dental Assistant

A level II dental assistant is the next position, requires you to:

1. Complete high school or its equivalent (e.g. GED), AND

2a. Complete a Board approved or CODA accredited dental assisting program, OR

2b. Be a current DANB certified dental assistant (CDA), AND

3. Complete a Board approved course in dental radiography training

4. Apply to the DC Board of Dentistry for registration

How to Become a Certified Dental Assistant in the District of Columbia
