Dental Auxiliary

A dental auxiliary can perform any basic supportive dental procedure listed under Montana’s dental practice laws. You can find all allowed duties here. You can also visit the Montana Board of Dentistry for more information. In order to qualify as a dental auxiliary, you must:

1a. Complete a CODA accredited dental assisting program, OR

1b. Obtain on the job training by a licensed dentist, OR

1c. Complete a Board approved training program

How to Become a Certified Dental Assistant in Montana

Radiography Requirements

To operate dental x-ray equipment and perform radiography procedures, you must:

1a. Complete the DANB Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) exam, which you will receive an RHS certificate upon passing the exam.

1b. Complete a CODA accredited dental assisting program, OR

1c. Obtain dental radiography certification in another state, OR

1d. Obtain dental radiography certification from the US military
