The first position we are going to talk about is the dental assistant. All licensed dental assistant must obtain and maintain health care provider CPR certification. In order to become a licensed dental assistant, you must:

1. Pass the DANB certified dental assistant (CDA) exam, AND

2a. Complete a CODA accredited dental assisting program, OR

2b. Complete a CODA accredited program in another state, OR

2c. Complete a Board approved dental assisting program OR complete on the job training as well as a Board approved course in expanded functions, AND

3. Pass the Minnesota Licensure exam, AND

4. Pass the Minnesota Jurisprudence exam, AND

5. Apply to the Minnesota Board of Dentistry for licensure

How to Become a Certified Dental Assistant in Minnesota

There is also the option to become a certified dental assistant (CDA), which gives you the opportunity to earn a higher salary as well as receive additional benefits. Becoming certified is highly recommended as there are plenty of benefits for such a simple process. In order to become certified in Minnesota, you must:

1. Complete a CODA accredited dental assisting program OR have at least 2 years/3,500 hours of dental assisting experience, AND

2. Obtain CPR certification from a DANB accepted provider, AND

3. Apply for and pass the national DANB CDA exam

Radiography Requirements

The only requirement you have to meet to operate dental x-ray equipment and perform radiography procedures is to be a Licensed Dental Assistant (see above)
